This course supports the transition to college and university preparation courses in English and other subjects. Students develop independence in academic tasks by leading discussions and workshops, reading literary and academic texts, writing essays, narratives, and reports, and applying research and learning strategies.

Prerequisite: ESL Level 4 or permission of the department

This course further develops English listening, speaking, reading, and writing for everyday and academic purposes. Students give short oral presentations, read adapted and original texts, write in several forms, expand academic vocabulary and study skills, and learn about Canadian citizenship, rights, responsibilities, and current issues.

This course extends beginning English skills for everyday and academic purposes. Students participate in structured conversations on familiar and new topics, read texts designed or adapted for English language learners, expand grammar and sentence patterns, and connect sentences to write clear paragraphs.

This course introduces English language learning for students beginning to use English in school and everyday life. Students build listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through short conversations, basic language structures, simple adapted texts, phrases, and short sentences while learning about life and schooling in Ontario.
